The definition of wellness is "The quality or state of being in good health, especially as an actively sought goal." This implies that not only are you not sick, but that you are actively working towards maintaining good health. So there is the secret, you do have to work hard at wellness if you want to get results. Wellness is not just about eating healthily or walking the dog daily. A good wellness program includes exercise, eating habits, managing stress and preserving your wellbeing. No matter what you read in magazines or see on television commercials, there are no pills or powders that you can take to make you feel good forever. Anyone who tells you this is probably trying to get hold of your money. A few lucky people are fortunate to live their whole lives in good healthy condition, however for most people, wellness is not a natural occurrence. We tend to start out relatively healthy, but if we do not work to maintain wellness, then our health will gradually decline as the years go by. Then, sometime in the future you will awake one day and not feel great, and will wonder what happened. The same as all our life goals, we have to consider our future wellness, and plan accordingly for it. Then we have to take the plan and make sure it is used within our everyday lives. If you are unlucky enough to live with a chronic illness or condition that stops you from actively following a standard wellness program, there are still steps you can follow to take your mind off the condition and to feel as well as is possible. Take, for instance, arthritis sufferers. They can enrol in P.A.C.E. (People With Arthritis Can Exercise) classes which can help with stress management and pain, and will also help their motion range and can slow down the progress of the condition. Always make sure that you check with your doctor before partaking in any new nutritional or exercise program.
