Aging And Growth Hormone

Humangrowth hormoneis produced by the pituitary gland, and it regulates growth, especially height.  After we stop growing, the production ofhuman growth hormonediminishes with age, but it does not cease altogether.  We still need human growth hormone as we get older.

What Does It Do?

In adults, human growth hormoneseems to regulate cellular functions related to protein and fat metabolism.  It stimulates an increase in muscle mass, not just by bulking up the muscles, but also by making new muscle tissue.Human growth hormonealso controls fat metabolism and prevents excess fatty deposits.  It seems to play a role in cardiovascular health, in energy and vigor and in overall well-being.

What Happens With Aging?

Aging in humans is accompanied by catabolic changes.  Catabolism is negative metabolism.  Tissues break down into their component parts and release their energy.  Free radicals accumulate, which may cause tissue damage.  Cell reproductive errors occur, causing inefficient metabolic functioning and cancers.

How Does Growth Hormone Help?

Growth hormoneis an anabolic hormone; that is, it causes tissue to be built.  Anabolic processes consume energy and result in growth, tissue repair and reproduction.

Some people believe that the break down that occurs with aging may be at least partially due to the decline in human growth hormone as we age.  If that is true, human growth hormone supplementation may be useful in reversing or preventing aging and in treating age-related health problems.

Although the research is in the preliminary stages, one study has shown that elderly men who received HGH injections had increased muscle mass and decreased fatty deposits.  This promising study suggests that HGH may be an effective anti-aging treatment.

RHGH Versus HGH Supplements

The only way to reliably supplement human growth hormone is by taking injections of recombinant HGH.  rHGH is a bioidentical growth hormone and is available only by prescription.

HGH “supplements” may or may not be helpful in reversing the effects of aging .  These supplements do not contain HGH; they stimulate the production of our own natural HGH.  If our pituitary gland can be stimulated to produce more HGH, they may be effective.  If, however, the pituitary is unable to produce the hormone , HGH supplements won’t help.
