Imaginative Meditation- Personalizing Your Very Own Meditation Process
Making the meditation yours can actually make the difference between a working meditation and one that just do not work at all. I knew of one person who liked looking at a snow-filled television set while listening to his favorite music. He maintained that it always put him in a trance so he used this as a method and got excellent results.
You really never can tell what will work for you. The trick is to find something that naturally cues your mind to go into that natural place in between sleep and wakeful consciousness. Half in, half out so to speak. Yet, to do it intentionally is the key and the difficulty. Bringing you to the meditation, rather than try to bring meditation to you.
I have heard a myriad of metaphors or analogies all geared towards explaining this very process. The best is the rock climbing illustration.
Rock climbing is a fast growing sport that anyone can do. In fact, it makes no difference how big and strong you are because some of the best rock climbers are little people. When climbing a mountain one would assume the big strong man would be best fit to the task. This is NOT the case.
All too often the 'body-builder' type will try his hardest to pull the mountain down to him, while the little girl already half way up the rock is maneuvering herself upwards. It is a simple, little twist in the ribbon of perspective, which makes all the difference in the world.
Meditation is the same in this regard. The first thing I always say to anyone asking me about it is always the same. Stop trying so hard. It is not really all that difficult if you know what to look for. Just find out what your mind reacts to naturally and refurnish the exact same set of circumstances.
Experiment with your surroundings and remember that unconventional methods tend to work great. Some people react well to scent, while others sight or sound. Its a good idea to begin with your senses. Be observant of how your brain reacts to whatever form of stimulation you choose. Results are what matter.
Their is simply no substitute for direct experience. People sometimes get too caught up in what others do and say in regards to meditation. There is nothing set in stone, so be creative and imaginative meditation will be more personalized to your needs.
Please try to think out of the box if you are having trouble with meditation. Meditation offers too much in the way of reducing stress and anxiety. It can help you achieve a healthy state of mind and that is priceless. If staring at a blank television set with soft music in the background helps your brain to settle down then by all means.
There are so many things to consider when you delve in to meditation and other mental practices. The most important are finding out what works specifically for you.
Creative visualization has been proven, it just plain works! Leading sports icons use it, football, basketball, baseball, gymnastics, Olympic trainers, people of all walks of life use it to great effects. Meditation when done properly can help you achieve any goal. Imaginative Meditation IS creative visualization to a more advanced extent.
