Do you want to increase self confidence and improve your self-esteem? Are you tired of feeling like no matter how hard you try you just can’t seem to accomplish what you’ve set out to do? In this day and age, most of us are asked to shoulder many different responsibilities. Yet when we fall short in any particular area of our lives, our confidence and conviction in our own self worth can suffer dramatically. Our attention and focus can become so divided amongst the various tasks and responsibilities we are faced with, that it feels like perfection in any one area is unattainable. As a result, many of us will become convinced that we have fallen short, and a lack of confidence begins to seep in and take hold. The good news is, this predicament of “spreading ourselves too thin,” and the resulting lack of confidence, can be corrected with active goal setting. For years, some of the most successful people—athletes, CEOs, etc.—have used goal setting as a way to increase self-confidence and boost self-esteem. By directing their attention to one goal at a time, and setting measurable timelines for achieving each one, these people have managed to overcome great obstacles and develop an unparalleled sense of self worth. Here’s how it works. Increase Self Confidence through Goal Setting - Make a list of all the things you want to accomplish in life, large and small, and for each, give yourself a realistic timeline for completion—one you can commit to following through with. Some goals may have a short time line; say six months, and some as much as several years. It really doesn’t matter. Just get everything down on paper and out of your mind. You’ll feel better immediately for having a written record which frees you from having to remember each goal.
- Next, for each goal you have written down, create a few objectives which need to be met—objectives which will bring you closer to each goal. Now, create a timeline for each one of these objectives.
- Now that you have your goals and objectives identified, with a timeline for meeting each one, you will no doubt find that both your attention and daily activities are more focused as you work to meet your timelines.
So how does this increase self confidence? With each objective you meet, you are going to find that you feel more empowered, as you gradually make progress on those things which you yourself have identified as being the most important. Gone forever will be the days of feeling scattered in a million directions and overwhelmed. Your attention will be focused and goal-oriented, increasing your self confidence and general self-perception.
