Internet Church

What is a church; simply put, it is a group of people. The Greek word ekklesia (called out) means exactly that, a group of people. In today's world we think of a church being a building, a simple structure but the building isn't called out, it isn't commanded to do something. A building can't sin; it can't feed the hungry or preach the word.  It's the people inside that are the church, however that building is viewed, it is the people inside that have created the persona, from the least to the greatest among them.
The churches today finds themselves in difficult positions, they need infusions of new people; more precisely, younger people. It is the youth on the future is built. The continuance of any long term organization is built on this concept. With that in mind, the question often becomes, how do we reach the youth? The answer could be as simple as; look at how they communicate with one another.
The youth today rarely uses technology that was used thirty years ago; they use cell phones, computers and ipods. They are savvy in twitter, blogging, facebook and myspace. The world they live in is a fast pace techno world of texting for communication, unlike those over forty who knew only the telephone when they were younger.
On this necessity to reach out to the youth; innovation is born, ideas and hard work are manifested into new ways to reach the masses. The internet has provided unique ways in which to spread the Gospel. One such way, our church has stumbled upon, Internet Radio. This technology allows a small church to do many things it normally couldn't do; such as, we can do a live broadcast over the internet with our message and give as much or as little time to it as we desire. We control the content, when we speak, how long we speak and how often. We play sermons 24/7 whether live or recorded, every minute a sermon is being preached to the world.
We have begun a Wednesday evening Bible study at 6PM live over the internet that can reach the entire world. People can e-mail us with questions from anywhere there is internet, and we can respond almost immediately. Folks who are shut in, the elderly who can't drive, many that were unable before with the aid of today's technology can enjoy and interaction with the church once more.
Our church , archive the programs so that people can listen at anytime, but we like to have participation among our people, we encourage our folks and the world to tune in. The beauty of this format, whether you agree or disagree with our doctrine, you have the digression of not being seen or heard; you have the sanctity of your home.
The churches of today have to become more than what our Fathers knew, they must be innovative to survive, to do the work we are commanded to do by Christ. We shouldn't shun away the new because we don't always understand it, sometimes it can become the media in which new enlightenment is given.
