Scientists in the medical field continue working on finding out new hair loss treatments that can be used. Now there are so many treatments to choose from to treat baldness. The most up to date include flap surgery. However, not all treatments work for everyone. There are some treatments which may even worsen the condition other than cure it. It is better to do research on whether flap surgery to treat baldness will work for you.

There are so many factors that you need to consider. The first is to know what it is. Flap surgery is done by relocating the scalp and hair from one position to the desired one. Large portions are transferred. It is common to relocate the area behind the temples to the front part of the head. It is called flap surgery because it flaps skin from the back to the front. This should cover up the balding areas.

You need to find out if you are a candidate for the surgery. The surgeons prefer a person who is losing hair in the frontal zone of the head. This area usually includes the hairline.  Those who have lost their hairline have hope in recovering it through this method. Not only will be baldness be covered, the hair will continue its growing cycle. If hair loss is located at the back of the head or on the whole head, the surgery is next to impossible.

Finance also plays a role in deciding if this treatment method is for you. This type of treatment is usually costly. The more experienced a surgeon is, the more you will have to pump out. You have to be prepared for the cost of the surgery and the after surgery care. To be more effective the surgery should not be done alone. It should be coupled with scalp reduction. Scalp reduction is a procedure where areas of the scalp are severed and then the rest of the skin is joined together. This may increase the cost of the surgery.

If you are affected by autoimmune diseases, then you have to look for other treatments for hair loss. Such diseases destroy the body's cells including hair cells. Even if you undergo surgery, hair loss will continue as the root of the problem has not been solved. Because of the already weak immune system, there is a high chance that there will be secondary infections will occur. This will further weaken your immune system and you may even die. The doctor has to ask you your medical history and you have to respond truthfully.

Don't go for a treatment just because your friends are also going for it. Our bodies are different and so are our conditions of hair loss. For example if you have a follicular disorder and your friend has a receding hairline, the surgeons would rather pay your friend to treat him or her that you. Talk to a doctor to see if you are a candidate for flap surgery to treat baldness.
