Spread Your Head, Not The Bread -- Use Mayonnaise!

Head lice removal using mayonnaise is a common home remedies used by many people! Having hear so many testimonies about the mayonnaise lice treatment, I am sure it will go into someone's health book of natural remedies. Knowing many mom's and dad's have had to deal with the unpleasant experience of a head lice infestation, you know for a fact how hard it is to get these little pests to stay away permenantly.

Removing lice from your home becomes a process of desparation when you understand how quickly they can spread from person to person. Prescription and over the counter head lice treatments are fast becoming ineffective as these little bugs build up an immunity to the dangerous chemicals & pesticides that are used in them Fortunately there are home remedies that are so much safer that will help with head lice removal -- a well known one happens to be mayonnaise.

Some of the things you will need to remove head lice using mayonnaise, other than the sandwich spread itself, of course, are a tightly fitting shower cap, a dishwashing liquid designed to cut through grease, and a head lice comb designed for removing nits.

The Treatment Process

The first step in performing this natural head lice treatment is to spread a liberal amount of mayonnaise all through the hair. The exact amount you will need will depend on the length and thickness of the hair, but a general rule of thumb is to use enough so that all of the hair is fully saturated but not dripping. The next step is completely cover your hair with the shower cap. If the shower cap does not fit snuggly, use plastic wrap (handi-wrap) from your kitchen. Wrap it around the shower cap edges to help make a better seal.

Leaving the mayonnaise on the hair for a longer period of time is better than a shorter time because it will give it time to suffocate the lice. Although overnight may work, as long as 12 hours is recommended for the best results.Even considering that this head lice removal method works quite well, it does produce a good mess to clean up. It will take quite an effort of shampooing your hair several times to remove the greasy mayonnaise from your tresses, but notice if you will, how the mayonnaise has not only treated for lice, but has made your hair more shiney, soft, and healthy.

Using a very small amount of liquid soap for washing dishes that is able to remove grease will help greatly when it comes time for clean-up but be careful it doesn't strip the hair of its own natural, essential oils. When you have applied one dose of Dawn dishsoap to your hair, try some regular shampoo afterwards. It will take several washings to get the mayonnaise completely washed out. You can also try mixing a little tea tree oil with your shampoo, or even buy some shampoo with tea tree oil as one of the ingredients. And finally, you must comb through the hair carefully and diligently with a head lice comb to remove all of the nits or lice eggs.

The entire process, including using the mayonnaise, should be repeated for a few days in a row to be completely sure all of the lice and nits are gone. As with any type of head lice removal process, persistence is the key when it comes to successfully getting rid of these small pests.
