A night face cream with sunscreen? Since we use night face creams at nighttime, it seems totally illogical to me to use a sunscreen. We are not exposed to sunlight. There is no other advantage, so what’s the point?
Perhaps, I should contact Dove to get some kind of explanation. Their night face cream contains titanium dioxide. The only purpose this compound serves is as a weak sunscreen. It’s a relatively safe sunscreen, but not very effective. Zinc oxide is an effective sunscreen, but still, it’s not something that you need to sleep in.
Judging by the ingredients, I would have to say that Dove makes one of the worst night face creams on the market. It contains ingredients that are toxic to the immune system, possibly carcinogenic, toxic to the respiratory system and toxic to the skin.
You might think that’s unusual, but actually most cosmetic companies use similar ingredients. There are major loopholes in the regulations that govern cosmetic companies. These loopholes allow them to use practically anything. They don’t have to check for contaminants. They can use known carcinogens, irritants and allergens, without consequence.
Know the Ingredients BEFORE You Buy ANY Night Cream
You would be amazed at how many people report adverse reactions. Most are minor, a rash, for example. But, some are serious and require treatment by a dermatologist. The only way to protect yourself is to learn as much as possible about the ingredients, before you buy a product.
List of Ingredients
The Environmental Working Group (EWG) has helped us out by creating a database that lists the compounds in night face cream and other skincare products. You can look up anything that you are currently using and decide whether or not to throw it away.
The only thing that EWG cannot tell you is how effective a product is and they don’t list all of the newest products. But, I can give you a little help with that.
Thebest night face creamsfall under the category of “anti-aging”. Why? The natural rejuvenation process occurs mostly at night. No matter what your age, if you want to look better for the rest of your life, you want to support that rejuvenation process. Below, you will find some safe and natural compounds that provide the support that you need.
Functional Keratin
Relatively new in night face creams, Functional Keratin is a protein extracted from sheep’s wool. It has been shown to increase skin cell proliferation, reduce inflammation, act as an antioxidant and moisturize.
H EQ10
Another new compound for night face cream, H EQ10 is a combination of natural vitamin E and coenzyme Q10. The compound can penetrate deeply and increase production of collagen and elastin fibers, fading wrinkles, fine lines, scars and blemishes
Manuka Honey
Honey has been used for thousands of years to heal skin injuries. It is included in the best night face creams to soften and stimulate the immune system. Manuka is more effective than other varieties of honey.
Avocado oil and Shea butter should also be included in night face cream, because you need that extra moisture. See resource box for more help. Now, you know where to start.
