The Jessner peel is a skin treatment method that has many faithful fans, thanks to the fact that it can be used on a wide variety of skin types and to treat a lot of different skin problems.  These include anywhere from mild to very severe acne, wrinkling and damage from sun exposure.  This type of peel enhances and improves the overall quality of your skin.

If you are interested in this kind of skin treatment, you should definitely understand the basic process and find out what you should expect before going further with this treatment.

How does a Jessner Peel work

The combination of substances used to do the peel includes resorcinol as well as salicyclic and lactic acids.  These components are put together because they help to exfoliate the outer layers of your skin, which helps to promote the natural peeling of the top layer(s) after a few days.  When this occurs, you will be left with the much clearer (and smoother) layer underneath.  That is why this type of peel is especially suited for those suffering from sun damage or mild to severe acne breakouts.  Skin damage of all types can be treated with a Jessner peel.

What to expect from a Jessner Peel

Before the procedure begins, your dermatologist will often apply a cleanser (often a glycolic cleanser is chosen) to make sure that all of the oils and dirt are removed from your skin, allowing the solution to properly penetrate for maximum effect.  You may feel slightly uncomfortable as the Jessner’s solution is applied, though cool air blown by a fan can relieve the slight burning sensation you are likely to get.

After the solution is put on, it will eventually be neutralized and removed with nice, cool water.  Then, within the next week there will be some peeling and flaking, after which your skin will start to heal properly, leaving your face looking great!

Little known facts about the Jessner peel include that it can be done to other areas of the body (such as the chest or neck) with great results, also.  It is actually a very common procedure that is done by nearly all dermatologists these days. Of course, for more specifics as well as an evaluation that will help to determine whether this type of peel is right for you, you will want to consult with a dermatologist.
