If you notice localized growth of flesh around your genital area, questions you should be asking yourself would be; are you a sexually active person and often have multiple partners at one time? And are you having unprotected sex? If your answer is a yes, then you are mostly infected with genital wart. Genital wart is very contagious and is transmitted through unprotected sex via oral, anal or vaginal contact.

Once a person feels itch or is experiencing discharge, he /she should visit the doctor to have a diagnosis done on them to verify the disease type. Genital warts can be diagnose either visually or using acetic acid swab. Another painless examination is colposcopy where a lighted viewing device is inserted into the reproductive organ of a woman for diagnosis purpose.

A biosy of cervical tissue involves obtaining tissue from the cervix and examining it under the microscope is another method of detection.

Genital wart will reappear even after numerous treatments. It all depends on the severity of the affected parts, and stages of detection which determines the type of treatment the patient should receive

Some methods of treatment are; applying chemical treatment (Podophyllin solution) and later rinsed off with water after few hours, freezing with liquid nitrogen or burning (electrodesiccation).

Other methods include surgery for removing stubborn warts or by applying Iniquimod which proved effective in cleaning external genital region.

Doctors at some medical centers also use laser treatment to remove genital warts.

To safeguard yourself and your love ones from this disease, the use of condoms is a necessity to reduce transmission of anogenital warts. There is no complete fool proof method except to practice abstinence. Refrain from having sexual contact with you partner if you or your other halve have visible symptoms.

Talk to your new partner regarding both your sexual history to prepare for any possibilities of contracting this disease. One sure way to find out is to undergo health screenings. It is often a taboo to talk about sexual issues but prevention is way better than cure.
