Lamictal falls in the category of anticonvulsants and is used in the treatment of seizures, mood swings and bipolar disorder. The medicine is not recommended for children below 2 yrs of age.

The medicine should be taken strictly as prescribed by the doctor. It should not be started or stopped, taken in larger or smaller amounts and taken for a longer period of time without medical consent. All medical and lab check-ups should be kept punctually. The medicine should be taken with a full glass of water with or without food. It can otherwise be chewed and swallowed or even diluted in a teaspoon of water or fruit juice and then swallowed.

The medicine is not recommended to people who are allergic to any ingredient of the medicine or to lamotrigine or even to the medicine itself. It should also not be taken if allergic to other medicines for the same disease. Valproic, divalproex etc taken along with the medicine can cause allergic reactions. Symptoms of allergic reactions like fever, throat pain, rashes, skin problems etc should attain medical help immediately. A change of dose might be required if the patient is already suffering from a kidney or liver condition or a heart disease. Suicidal thoughts are likely to happen and hence the patient should be kept at close watch. It is unknown as to whether the medicine is harmful to a fetus or to a breast feeding baby if the mother takes the medicine. Birth control pills can adversely affect the working of the medicine and hence a doctor should be consulted about its usage. Carbazephine, oxcarbazephine, primidone, phenytoin, rifampin etc can effect the working of the medicine and hence a dose change might be required if the patient is under treatment with any of the mentioned drugs. Irritations, restlessness, mental conflicts, over anxiousness, mood swings etc can happen during the course of treatment and this should get medical attention immediately.

Pregnant women taking this medicine can cause defects in an unborn baby. Immediate medical attention should be availed if the patient experiences a headache, fever, throat pain, chills, skin sensitivity, symptoms of flu, jaundice, appetite problems, dark coloured stool and urine, jaundice, muscle pain or fatigue. Other possible side effects include giddiness, stomach trouble, vision related problems, difficulty to co-ordinate, weight fluctuations, sleeping trouble, blocked or runny nose. Some of these can also be symptoms of an over dose. Medical attention should be provided urgently if any of these symptoms are found or if the patient realizes that they have overdosed.

Lamictal is a well known drug and at the same time it is widely considered as the best option for most of the strange diseases that you might come along. It is always advised to buy these drugs at CanAmerica Global , as you can save a lot of time and money.
