It is important to find things to do to help capture your time when you are separated from your loved one. If you seem to have difficulty marking time until you see or talk to your partner, you will need to challenge yourself to find things to do. This would be a good occasion to think about and take care of yourself. If you are not employed or have children in the household to keep you active enough, perhaps choosing some kind of volunteer work or taking a class or two in school would help decrease your spare time. This extra period of time can also be used to do all those things you have been wanting to do, but, just kept putting off.

Staying busy and occupied will help stave off too much daydreaming of what is your partner up to when you are not together. The main focus is to circumvent the tendency to fill those long distance conversations with complaints or impracticable demands, simply due to the fact that your are bored from doing nothing with your time and therefore, preoccupied with missing your significant other. Being a boring person with nothing to bring to the relationship is also not very enticing to others.

Perhaps your partner has to live at a distance due to a job transfer or to pursue studies to help further their education. Exercising patience in this regard helps show your support. Even though this may feel like it is only you that is having a difficult time with the separation, it goes both ways. So, even as your partner has plans and goals to work on in their own life, they also feel the pain and challenges of the distance. They likewise need to call upon equal doses of patience!

Having a fulfilling life by keeping busy with various interesting activities can help fill the void so that you are not just sitting around waiting for the next phone call or text message. Minor setbacks such as when your partner does not call on time will hopefully result in you becoming less upset, and better able to cope with the time that you are not together. Showing a moderate degree of patience can help to achieve a successful relationship and diminish the chances for it to become a failure.

By not putting your life on hold - seeing friends, participating in your favorite hobbies, and simply living your life - all can help towards being happier with your life and looking forward to the continuation of your long distance relationship!
