You have not been feeling well the past week due to an unexplainable abdominal pain. Due to this, you have missed a few days of work, but can't afford to take off any more. Your friend goes to the store to buy you different pain relievers, but the excruciating pain just won't go away.

You are so tired of the discomfort that you decide to call for an appointment with your doctor. The day came, you told her about the pain and she did tests on you including a pelvic ultrasound.

Right then and there she said: "Oh, you have a growth on your right ovary. There are Different Types of Cysts and what you have is a dermoid cyst". You are in disbelief and feel like the world tumbled down on you. You have ovarian cysts. Is this life-threatening? Or you may be thinking that you have cancer. Your tears start to flow.

The doctor, seeing your reaction, calms you down and tells you not to panic. She tells you that there are Different Types of Cysts, and that most of them are not life-threatening. She requests a CA-125 Protein Test to rule out cancer.

Just about all women encounter Different Types of Cysts at some point in their lives. A few types have complications and problems. But everything can be treated and there are different approaches for each one."

Each month, when a woman ovulates, there is a functional cyst that develops, thus supporting the egg cell. When the egg is released, this functional growth dissolves.

At times when it doesn't release, it grows bigger, but is not in any way perilous to your health. After 2 to 3 months, it disappears. It can be remedied at home by means of eating the right foods, exercising and by using herbal remedies. Most of the time, there is no need for surgery.

Sometimes, a woman does not ovulate and a corpus luteum (fluid filled sac) is formed. Often when this occurs, you are told that you have to just wait to see if it dissolves, since it rarely causes any physical complications.

Dermoid cysts are often filled with hair, bones, teeth, skin and cartilage. It is frequently referred to as a failed fertilization. It is not cancerous at all. It can cause chronic abdominal pain, due to ovarian torsion (twisting), which is common in a dermoid because of its size.

Endometrioma is another type of cyst. It forms because the tissue linings of the endometrium pushes inside the ovary and causes a blockage, which results in swelling. These can be painful during sex, and during your period.

Cystadenoma is a growth that forms from cells on the outer surface of the ovary. They are often filled with a thick watery brownish-blood, and is very painful.

These different types of cysts can cause extreme pain, if they don't dissolve on their own. In the worst case scenarios, surgery may be required to eliminate the problem. As you have learned, there are different types of ovarian cysts, and it is natural for a woman to have them.

Undoubtedly you are relieved to know that most of these growths are not cancerous, and you can decide on what course of treatment you want to take.
