Everone will have heard the sound of tinnitus but perhaps without being aware of it. After any very loud noise we are in no way surprised to find our ears might be ringing. We are quite at ease with this happening. We have all turned our music centres up to extreme levels at one time or another. It isn't necessarily something that really concerns us because it always goes away after a few hours. We just don't really think about it or think what causes it as it is only a passing irritation. Picture though, that it never did go away! That would feel insufferable! Well, such is the fortune of the tinnitus sufferer. That ringing in the ear which defines the sounds of tinnitus is the unwelcome guest of a tinnitus sufferer. They are never very far away. The sounds of tinnitus are with you when you eventually get to sleep, and they are ringing in your ears when you wake up. The sounds of tinnitus are with you and likely to be your unshakeable companion, long term. Sometimes the beginning of a new tinnitus is out of the blue. Tinnitus isn't always apparent straight away after exposure to very loud noise. Even when tinnitus sounds start there is an assumption that they will be temporary and will go away. When they persist, at first it is just irksome. The next stage is feeling quite anxious about it. At this point many people do find it quite alarming. Distressing because you are quite unable to get away from the sounds of tinnitus, there is nowhere to go. Medical advice ought always be sort to ratify your tinnitus diagnosis. Realistically there is decidedly little that your doctor can do to assist you as there is at this time no recognised cure for tinnitus. Perhaps, though there is comfort in being told that there is no physical problem which might make a bad situation even worse. How does that leave the new tinnitus sufferer when he needs to get hold of some form of tinnitus support? With the availability of the internet there is a plethora of tinnitus information and tinnitus support on hand. Beware though that it can be counterproductive to spend too much time digging out all there is to know about tinnitus. Hours spent poring over negative websites can result in an increased negativity and resultant increase in tinnitus intensity. Attention is the one thing you should not give your new tinnitus. The new tinnitus sufferer will very soon become aware that the more they give thought to their tinnitus, the more they listen to those tinnitus sounds, the more invasive they become. However, there is an important clue here. Learning how to turn your back on the sounds of tinnitus is the first step in the journey to defeat tinnitus. This is the signpost to tinnitus liberation. .
