Congratulations! Your well off into the planning process by this point. You have: Said Yes!, Picked your Bridal Party, Selected the Venue, Mailed out the Save the Dates, Found the perfect Dress…and now it's time to "Taste the Cake"!

The cake at the Wedding is one of the highlights of the occasion! It's a moment that the Bride & Groom share together with that first bite and a moment that the Guests have been waiting for because they know they get to take a slice home!

When choosing a Wedding Cake there are several things to consider! How many guests? What style/shape? How many cakes? What flavors to choose?

1st: How many guests are you feeding?

Assuring you have enough cake for all of your guests is very important. Depending on your Reception Venue, your cake will more than likely be included in your package and therefore they will take care of this portion for you. However if you are not at a Full Service Facility, then here is something to consider!

~The tiers of the cake equals the guests invited!

*100 or less guests = 3 Tier Wedding Cake or Smaller

*100-200 guests = 4 Tier Wedding Cake

*200 or more guests = 5 Tier or bigger Wedding Cake

2nd: What style & shape fits your Wedding?

Are you having a Themed Wedding: Vintage, Classic, Modern, Holiday, Seasonal?? Knowing your style will make finding the right cake easier. Since it is such a highlight of the Wedding Day and guests love to take pictures of it…you want to be sure it fits in with the décor! Do you like squares or circles? Straight lines or curves? Fondant or icing? All these things which can make your brain explode, will be answered by your baker and even suggested, as the two of you agree on what's best for your Wedding day! Your baker should be preferred by your Wedding planner or Reception Venue. If not be sure your baker has experience in doing wedding cakes and that your comfortable with him/ her making your Wedding Cake! This is your Wedding Day!

3rd: How many cakes are you having? Groom's Cake? Cupcake cake?

I cake, 2 cakes, or 150 little cupcakes? I'm not the kind of planner that follow's trends to much, however I love the idea of a Groom's Cake at the Wedding! It's a nice "signature" from the Groom, that truly shows his style! Another cake trend that has been gaining popularity in the Wedding & Event Industry is the idea of having a Cupcake Cake! I love this idea! It's cost effective and adds a very modern touch to a Wedding! Although, It is not for everyone, it is wonderful to have the option!

4th: What flavors?

Chocolate Mousse, Vanilla Butter Crème, Raspberry Butterscotch, Strawberry Filing? The cake tasting is definitely my favorite part of the Cake process! You want to assure that the inside matches the outside. Consider your guests when choosing your flavors and ingredients. The bottom tier or second from bottom tier is usually the Bride/Groom "Cutting of Cake" section! So make this tier one that you both love. The other tiers are really for your guests, so give them something they will enjoy! I'm not saying take a guests survey, but choose something basic or at least that you know most of your guests will enjoy! Be aware of allergies too!

Once you set-up the meeting with your Baker, you will discuss steps 1-4. I think it is important for a successful meeting to occur to know what you like, at least a little bit, prior to attending any meeting with any Vendor.

So with all this being said,  "Let's Eat Cake!"

Happy Cake-Cutting!
