A lightweight folding wheelchair can weighs as little as 30 lbs, and when you fold it down will be about the size of a golf bag. So if you arr travelling maybe to the doctors, shopping or even on holiday they become ideal solutions for your wheelchair needs as it folds easily and will require little space. Lightweight wheelchairs are designed for safety and durability and are technically advanced.

Features of lightweight folding wheelchairs

The set up of a lightweight wheelchair consists of a steel frame which will typically weigh in the region of 13 lbs and come with a nicely upholstered padded seat and arm rest. The arm rests are folding down to the seat before folding the whole chair. Other types of lightweight wheelchairs are the same are rigid version of this one.

Lightweight wheelchairs are designed for Elderly users

The design and use of the lightweight folding wheelchair is more for elderly use who require the lightweight and ease to fold design. The wheelchair is not actually designed for the user to fold but rather the helper who follows.

A weakness or disadvantage of lightweight folding wheelchairs is they can't be tailored to individual users as the need to fold and bend in certain positions and hence any customs sizes will affect the folding ability compared to rigid wheelchairs that don't require any folding can be completely costumed.

Due to this fixed design they normally are not that comfortable and are good for short trips and not for the whole day. But as they selling point has been they are light and ease transported they are still very popular with others.

Maintenance and Care of wheelchair

Typically these types of wheelchairs will require more maintenance and care than others as they have many folding points and are not as strong as other types. The frames are typically weak and they will easily bend and become difficult to fold up in future.

Maintenance of all parts of your wheelchair is important and if not used often should be kept in the house and not left in the weather. You don't want the day you require the wheelchair you find the nuts and bolts rusty and unable to unfold.

Good thing about lightweight folding wheelchairs is they people access to the world and at the same time the ease of transportation.
