Liver disease may not show any symptoms at first, as symptoms can be vague. This includes weakness and loss of energy.
Other symptoms include jaundice that is a disease of the gall bladder. Jaundice is one of the main symptoms of liver disease. Jaundice can turn the skin color to yellow. Another symptom is related to digestion and appetite. Poor appetite is a very common symptom. It leads to loss of weight and anemia. Along with this vomiting, nausea or diarrhea can also manifest.
Another important symptom is light colored stool. Due to the lack of bile production, the stool will appear light and can be gray colored or pale.
Causes of Liver Disease
There are several causes of liver failure. The most common causes of liver failure are:
1. Long term, excessive alcohol consumption
2. Cirrhosis
3. Hemochromatosis
4. Malnutrition
5. Acetaminophen (Tylenol) overdose
6. Reaction to a prescribed medication
7. Ingestion of poisonous wild mushrooms
Symptoms of Liver Disease
Some common liver disease symptoms include the following, each of which are described briefly below:
1. Jaundice
2. Cholestasis
3. Liver enlargement
4. Portal hypertension
5. Ascites

Risk Factor by Liver Disease
Some people are at higher risk of fatty liver disease. Known risk factors include:
1. Obesity (about two in every 10 obese people have the condition)
2. High fat diet, especially diets that are high in saturated fats
3. Lack of exercise
4. High alcohol intake
5. Diabetes
6. Insulin resistance.
These risk factors are not conclusive. For example, a severely obese person may not have fatty liver disease, while a slim person may. The exact causes of fatty liver are unknown.
Home Remedies to Avoid Liver Disease
Following are some of the effective home remedies for liver problems:
1. Take the juice of two raw oranges once a day for up to a week. This is very easy home remedy for liver problems.
2. Add a little salt and some roasted cumin seeds to a glass of buttermilk. Drink this early in the morning. This will keep your liver healthy and protects it from disorders.
3. Make papaya seeds extract and mix a teaspoonful of lime juice in it. Take this juice once a day.
4. Prepare a mixture of carrot and spinach juice in the ratio of 1:1. This is very beneficial for liver cirrhosis. Take a glass of this juice everyday for at least three-four weeks.
5. Prepare a mixture of honey and bhringaraj. This is very beneficial in treating liver cirrhosis. Add two teaspoons of juice of bhringaraj and two teaspoon of honey. This should be taken two times in a day (half in the morning and half in the evening).
Herbal Remedies for Liver Disease
Following are some of the effective herbal remedies for liver diseases:
1. Licorice is very effective home remedy for liver diseases and provides a good liver care.
2. Milk thistles keep the toxic material away and help in new cells formation in the liver in place of damaged liver cells.
3. Turmeric and guduchi are other important herbs which are beneficial in liver care.
4. The Indian aloe is also commonly used in liver care. It stimulates the liver into carrying out its functions normally. It is used in the treatment of jaundice and enlargement of the liver.
5. Another useful herb used in the treatment of jaundice is Indian sorrel. It is taken in the form of fresh juice mixed with buttermilk made from cow's milk. It is to be taken once daily during jaundice.
