Lucky Bamboo for 2010

Here is to a magnificent 2010.

As I rang in the New Year it occurred to me that a lot of us would rather forget 2009. It was a tough year for many. 2010 brings the promise of more ease and happiness and hopefully less sacrifice and trade-offs.With 2009 behind us it’s time to attract the health, wealth and happiness we deserve!

There are a lot of experts, blogs, audio tapes and hardcover books dedicated to helping you attract what you want out of life. I fully believe in the power of the universe…ask and you shall receive. But, how to set intentions in a way that puts the right energy out into the universe and acts as a call to action for our own bodies and minds?  Here are a few of my favorite, creative ways to harness the power of the universe and of our own minds. As the book The Secret discusses, “thoughts become things” and it’s important that our thoughts and are actions are in alignment.

If you are like me, you might need a bit more than a thought before bedtime. I need to create, write, draw and remind myself of my thoughts and my intentions so that I don’t stray as the day, month and year go on.  Here are a few of my favorite techniques for helping your thoughts become things and your actions sing!

  1. Journey board:I wrote about this in a past article but I think it’s worth mentioning again. Vision plus action equals a journey board. Keep your vision board front and center and add a star, footprint or whatever you want to use every time you take a step towards your vision. This technique helps you reconnect with your vision both on a conscious and subconscious level. You aren’t just looking at your vision board, you are interacting with it too. Click here to see the past article on how to create.
  2. Lucky Bamboo:In Feng Shue, the lucky bamboo is used to attract health, wealth, happiness, love and abundance. Who doesn’t need a little luck in those areas! Print out the picture above and place it anywhere in your house. I keep mine in my bathroom so that I’m reminded the moment I wake up that I am a person that attracts tremendous luck and fortune. It helps me get the day going in the right direction no matter how I slept the night before (remember, I have small kids so a good night sleep is hard to come by).
  3. Journal Top Three:One of the most important lessons I’ve had recently is to be thankful for where you are while you strive for the next level. Have you ever met that person that is never satisfied, always looking for the better job, better relationship or bigger house? It’s ok to want more in life but it’s equally important to be happy with where you are today. Every night before you go to bed, write down the 3 things you are thankful for that day. It can be big things like the love of your partner or a promotion at work or small things like a good joke or a short line at the store. The more you do this the more you find you are thankful for. Give thanks in abundance and be happy for your blessings today.
  4. Sticky notes:We have triggers. Moments or places that seem to set us off or make us feel as if we are off track. For me, it’s my car. For some reason, driving stresses me out and once I’m stressed my mind starts to stew in negativity. I know it sounds a bit irrational but it’s the truth. Most of us have these places. For a friend of mine, it’s her bathroom. Once she starts getting ready, the to-dos of the day start to stress her out and it’s a downward spiral from there.  To combat negative energy zones put up positive  notes to yourself. When I get in my car I see my motivational chant staring back at me. It reminds me to say it a few times which then puts my mind on a more positive track. My friend has stickies with motivational quotes all around her bathroom. If you don’t have a mantra or you aren’t sure what to write go to quote websites like .  Type in keywords like motivation,  dreams, vision or  positive. You can even search by person. Read through the quotes until you find one that speaks to you.
