Not only are you a bridesmaid, but you are the maid of honour. You will have been chosen by the bride to play this very important part of her day and the entire run up to the wedding. There was good reason for this, you must have been an extremely good friend to her over the years, and as a token of appreciation, has asked you to fill these very important shoes of the maid of honour.

Be Yourself

Now, this is of course far easier said than done, but of all people whom have been asked to make speeches on the couple's wedding day, yours needs to be very genuine. It can only be genuine if you are speaking as yourself, rather than as someone who is trying to impress too much and not looking nor feeling relaxed. As you are close to the bride and groom and due to the fact that the vast majority of the audience will already know you, faking it would stand out a clear mile. Try to talk only in a manner in which you normally would and do not push the jokes. After all, the jokes can be left to the best man, so the pressure is off in that department slightly anyway.

Who, What, Where?

As the maid of honour, it is your job to congratulate the couple on their new venture in life together and to tell stories of how they came to know each other. You could always begin by explaining the story of how yourself and the bride came to be best of friends; the reminiscing of the bride might even bring her to tears. It is always nice to think back all those years and remember how the lives of important people came together; it is to be appreciated every day.

Next, talk about your memories of when the bride met her new boyfriend at the time, whom you see sat next to her on this very day. You can be frank and honest about what you really thought of him after your first meeting. Of course, (hopefully) he is not as gawky or nervous as he once was. Either way, tell the audience how you watched them fall in love and how you were so happy to see your best friend so emotionally content after they met.

All's Well That Ends Well

A maid of honour speech must always end on a high note so ask the audience to raise their glasses and wish the newly well couple a very happy future together. Although I am sure you will be, express how you genuinely mean this and how there is nobody else who could deserve this kind of happiness any more than they do. Toast to a bright and long future together and await as the audience stand to their feet and cheer.

Thank you for the time you spent with me reading this article about maid of honour speeches ! I'd also love to meet you on my blog to have a chance to tell you more about wedding speeches - actually you could start by browsing the category page for bridesmaid wedding speeches right away - you will want to share it with others.
