In the olden days when your parents got married, there wasn’t much to choose from as far as the top of the cake went. It was the simple bride and groom standing arm in arm. Plain and boring. You just give them the theme and they will pop out a few ideas for you to go over. You decide what one you want and they will build it for you.
The theme of the wedding topper can be from your job to your lifestyle, your hobby, or your favorite past-time. Some have even had figurines of their whole family if they have children beforehand. There are some wedding cake makers that will throw the topper in for free, depending on what type of cake you get. If you are having it designed to go with the theme of your cake or wedding you may want to work with both the designer and the bakery if they are separate.
