A lot of you must have heard thatsoya bean is good for health.A lot you must have thought, how is soya bean so beneficial to our lives. Let me just tell you a few important things about soya bean and its benefits.

Soya bean is cultivated extensively for centuries in South East Asia & USA. In India soyabean cultivation was introduced in 1977. In our country it is mainly cultivated in North-Indian sub Himalayan belt. In India people started liking this pulse mainly among the vegetarians.

The nutritive value of this wonder bean is enormous. Other than being thecheapest source of high quality vegetable protein, it also has a good amount of energy and fat. Soyabean contains43g ofproteinper 100g, which is the highest among all pulses. It also contains19.5g of fat, 21g of carbohydratesand432 kilocalorie per 100g. The protein of soyabean contains all the essential amino acids in adequate amounts except methionine and cystine, due to which it is considered as the best vegetarian source as far as protein is concerned. It is a good source of vitamins thiamine, niacin, folic acid, carotene and a fair source of riboflavin. It is also a good source of mineral zinc.

It contains many compounds which can powerfully influence thereduction of the risk of cancer. Studies have shown that people with high cholesterol who are already on low fat, low cholesterol diet, 8 weeks substitution of animal protein with soya proteinreduce the cholesterol by 23-25%.Soya products also helps in having agood control on the blood sugar levelsas its a good source of fibre. With this high fibre content, it also helps intackling overweight and obesity problems. Soya proteins may help in better calcium utilization in order to ward off the agony of osteoporosis.

Beyond contribution of human well being, soyabeans enhance taste in edibles. Supermarket shelves now carry a wide range of soya products such aschunks, flakes, granules, soymilk, soya curd, tofu(soya paneer), soya flourand of course thesoyabean oil. You could use these products in your day to day life. Add the soya flour in the breads and other cereal preparations like chapati,  dosa, idli, etc. Add a little of the soya flour to the porridge you make. Just add a fist of the soya flakes or granules in any of the dishes you prepare. One advantage of these flakes or granules, is that they have a bland taste. Just soak it in hot water for 2 minute; squeeze out the water and add it to any dish and it'll take up the taste of your dish without making any changes to its original taste. Use soy milk as a substitute for the regular milk. You can be as innovative as you can in food preparation and utilize the benefits of soya bean.

Soyabean being theonly vegetarian source of high quality protein, is really a great boon to the vegetarians. It has surely proved to be great flavor of fitness due to its nutritional and other benefits. Looking at its benefits we can really call it a"Wonder Bean."
