With the hot summer upon us it is time to make sure that your body is getting sufficient water/hydration.  Without water your body cannot function and many people perish in the heat because they believe that they are getting enough water through soda pop, coffee or tea. Not true, you need pure water with minerals to completely hydrate your body. In fact soda pop, coffee or tea can cause a leaching of minerals from the body.

A little known fact for most people is that water alone is not sufficient for complete hydration of your body!  It is minerals that keep your body regulated.  During high heat minerals are exiting your body at a rapid rate.  Mother Nature has always known this and that is why high volume water fruits ripen in the hot summer months. The water in these fruits contains precious minerals and it is pertinent to eat as much of these luscious fruits as possible during the summer.

Watermelon is one of the richest sources of mineral water available along with its positive effect on regulating constipation.  Nothing tastes better on a hot summer day than a cold slice of watermelon.

Here is a list of summer fruits in alphabetical order:

  • Apricots
  • Asian Pears
  • Blackberries
  • Cantaloupe
  • Casaba Melon
  • Cherries
  • Crenshaw Melon
  • Currants
  • Figs
  • Gooseberries
  • Grapes
  • Guava
  • Honeydew Melon
  • Huckleberries
  • Lychee Nut
  • Mangoes
  • Nectarines
  • Papayas
  • Peaches
  • Plums
  • Raspberries
  • Strawberries
  • Watermelon

Consume as much as these as you desire during the hot summer months and you may find that you are shedding weight as well, because of their low fat and high water and fiber content.

Now let us see what Mother Nature has provided in summer vegetables that once again contain high volumes of natural mineral water.

  • Arugula
  • Avocados
  • Beans, Green
  • Beans
  • Beets
  • Collards
  • Corn
  • Cucumber
  • Eggplant
  • Garlic
  • Kohlrabi
  • Mushrooms
  • Okra
  • Onions
  • Peas, Sugar, Snap
  • Peppers
  • Potatoes
  • Shallots
  • Squash, Summer
  • Swiss chard
  • Tomatoes
  • Zucchini

These vegetables are high in calcium and magnesium which help regulate the heat in your body.  Cooking diminishes the minerals in these vegetables, eat as many raw as possible and lightly steam the others to maintain as much minerals as possible.

Have you ever found yourself experiencing more muscle pain during the hot weather?  It could be coming from Dehydration. Dehydration is often a source of muscle pain.  Along with Mother Nature's natural water supply of fresh fruits and vegetables, I recommend you drink purified water mixed with Mineral Water 50/50. This will replace the minerals that are leaving your body continuously. The real key to hydration is drinking beyond your thirst.

Take advantage of the gifts of Mother Nature and you will go through this summer feeling better than you ever have before!
