If you suffer from porn addiction or know someone who does you may understand that like all behavioral addictions like gambling addictions and so on they are not so easy to break by just sheer willpower. Not to dismiss willpower as an important aspect of recovery but help with porn addiction needs to start at the root causes of the issues that have leads the person in question to such an unhealthy habit.
While practical steps such as deleting all the porn from your computer and unsubscribing to any porn sites you may belong to may help, this is just like someone trying to quit smoking throwing away a packed of cigarettes to stop them smoking. It is not a bad idea but it does not stop them going out and buying another pack in a moment of weakness just as a porn addict can always find more porn. Again I do not want to dismiss practical measures and those that really to want to kick their addiction to pornography online and other wise should defiantly get rid of any easy access to their chosen obsession to help them and their willpower to overcome their problems.
However the real thing a person must do to be free of any addiction is to understand their root cause of the addiction and then take steps to solve that problem. Just pruning a tree does not kill it and it will grow back, you must uproot it completely and that is exactly what an addict must do with his addiction; uproot it.
Typically most commentators on pornography addiction lay the blame at low self esteem which drives men to seek easy sexual gratification online especially. This however may not be the only cause though it is prominent; other causes have been a warped image of women and sex from an early age driving them to porn because it fits their image of sex more than real life. Some considered better adjusted men have become addicted because they believed their sex life was boring and used porn as an outlet for more exciting and titillating adult entertainment but spiraled into addiction because of it. In the end even the most common cause being low self esteem has a multitude of reasons for each person so there can be no cookie cutter solution. Instead a more personalized approach must be taken to curing this addiction.
Knowing is half the battle the old adage says and it is very true, knowing the cause intimately allows someone who is willing to tackle this problem the ammunition to fight it honestly without self deception or a warped view that may hinder their attempts. While therapy is often used you can also do this yourself with the right mindset of introspection and self analysis. To be armed with information about addiction in general and the unreality of porn is also an asset one must take into battle against their addiction.
If you require more help with porn addiction you may need to seek professional advice that cannot be said within the confines of an article but I hope that this has shed some light on their condition and has given you a head start to finding a cure and leading a better life.
