Did you know our biological clock keeps track of seconds, minutes, days, months and even years? Bizarre as it may sound, our bodies keep track of every split second we spend stressing out. And in this wear and tear, our bodies slowly lose their youthful exuberance and agility. Remember the 2000-year old man back in 60’s? “Nectarines”, he said, kept him “alive and kicking”. For sure, it was only a comic character created by Mel Brooks and Carl Reiner - and the answer does not lie in nectarines; and not even in a strict diet routine, exercise or a lucky pool of genes.

Going under the knife

So, is surgery the only way out? Yes; for instant and radical changes, surgical procedures like facelifts, The Lifestyle Lift, Botox, collagen injections and liposuction are all available choices. Cosmetic surgery being as common as it is now, some people desire radical changes – trying to look 25 when they’re 60, for example. In most such cases, surgery leaves behind that artificial ‘pulled’ appearance. As much as we love the younger and tighter look, the incisions and that ‘plastic’ look aren’t really desirable outcomes. Looking young is not only about looking good. People are searching for ways to feel younger and healthier as well.Next in the rowSpeaking of diets, are all ‘fats’ evil? Studies have shown that some types of essential fatty acids are very beneficial to your health, particularly the Omega-3 group of fatty acids. Not only does they have anti-aging effects, they also exhibit significant correlation with reduced risks of heart disease, stroke, high blood pressure, bone loss, Crohn's disease, cancers of the breast, colon and prostate and rheumatoid arthritis.

So, is Omega-3 a ‘miracle’ cure

Omega-3 is by no means a miracle cure. Omega-3 fatty acids encourage the production of body chemicals that help control inflammation in the joints, the bloodstream, and the tissues. As essential as it is for us, Omega-3 acids are not produced by our bodies; and surprisingly missing in many people’s regular diets. Omega-3 fatty acids can be found in foods like walnuts, some fruits and vegetables, and coldwater fish such as herring, mackerel, sturgeon, and anchovies.Available FormsAs it is not produced by our body, Omega-3 fatty acids can be taken in the form of fish oil capsules. The other available forms are flaxseed and flaxseed oil. Whole flaxseed must be ground and used within 24-hours - otherwise the ingredients lose their ‘activity’. Flaxseeds are also now available in ground form in a special Mylar package so that the components in the flaxseeds stay active.  In conclusion, we’ll leave you with a word of caution - be sure to buy Omega-3 fatty acid supplements made by established companies who certify that their products are free of heavy metals such as mercury, lead, and cadmium.
