Overview

Whatever else is in dispute, the benefits offish oil for children with ADHDis not one of them! Not all fatty acids are created equal and there are good fatty acids and essential fatty acids: Omega 3 is one of those fats that are not only good for you; it is classed as one of those fats that are absolutely essential to your health. It is for this reason that Omega 3 is referred to as one of the essential fatty acids, withfish oil for children with ADHDconsidered an excellent source of Omega 3. In fact, there are two essential fatty acids. Both of these are essential for our bodies to work properly. Both of these essential fatty acids are contained in fish so, providingfish oil for children with ADHDmakes perfect sense if you look at the evidence from scientific studies.

Two Essential Fatty Acids

There are actually two essential fatty acids that we need to make our bodies work properly. The first is Omega 6: this is not a problem because today's modern diet eaten by the majority of American children is rich in Omega 6. However, doctors and scientists have found that our children's modern diet is particularly deficient in Omega 3. For your brain to work properly and sent out appropriate signals, sufficient DPA is especially necessary: DPA is found in oily fish such as herring, salmon and mackerel as well as many other kinds of fish. Providefish oil for children with ADHDand, according to definitive studies, their behavior improves beyond belief.

The Effect on Children with ADHD

Drs Rudin and Felix, in their book on Omega 3 oils, note that:

"ADHD children also tend to have more allergies, eczema, asthma, headaches, stomachaches, ear infections and dry skin than non-ADHD youngster".

The relevance of this observation is that Omega 3 has a beneficial effect on children with ADHD and this beneficial effect is obtained simply by addingfish oil for children with ADHD. However, it also has a beneficial effect on those other symptoms mentioned by Dr Rudin and Dr Felix, most especially seen by its efficacy on skin. Thinking about conditions such as asthma and stomachaches especially, you will note that both are involved with an inflammation of the mucus linings within the body – the inside skin, if you like. Most importantly, however, essential fatty acids are absolutely essential for the proper growth and development of your brain: hardly surprising then thatfish oil for children with ADHDresults in such an improvement!

Conclusions from Scientific Studies

Educational psychologists working with children who exhibited behavioral problems began to suspect there might be something missing in those children's diets that was causing this erratic behavior. This was in 1981: studies involving 23 maladjusted children and 20 children whose behavior was considered normal. From blood tests taken it was revealed that the levels of essential fatty acids were significantly less than those in the normal children. It was suggested thatfish oil for children with ADHDmight help to improve behavior.

A further study was undertaken in 1987 involving 48 children who had been diagnosed with ADHD.  Scientists came to the conclusion, since definitively proven, that a supplement offish oil for children with ADHDwas far more beneficial for controlling their behavior than a daily dose of Ritalin.
