One of the most important things we need when we are trying to change our lives through the Law of Attraction is the support of the people around us. Unfortunately, for many of us, this support is almost non-existent.

Many people have come to me and said, "Look, I've been trying so hard to learn how to use the Law of Attraction to turn my life around, but my spouse (or friends, or family) keep telling me I'm crazy."

Believe me, I do understand. I think it is something like the story of lobsters caught in a lobster trap. One lobster wanted to get out, but the other lobsters would not hear of it. In fact, they threatened to kill him.

Now, I am not suggesting anything quite so drastic could happen to someone trying to better their lives through the use of The Secret, - but I am suggesting that the circles in which each of us move are, in fact, delicately balanced social networks, where even one small change can ripple out and seem to threaten the entire group.

This is one reason why an alcoholic who decides he wants to be free of this addiction will often meet with veiled resistance to his decision. He may find his friends trying to convince him that just one drink will not hurt. Now, the alcoholic who has decided to get sober knows that this is not the case for him, but among his friends, he has, up until that point, filled a certain role. For whatever reasons, this role has been an important part of the circle.

The same situation often develops with someone who is overweight, but suddenly determined to lose weight. In fact, many dieters report a form of subtle sabotage that takes place when they inform those closest to them of their decision. Instead of support, they get an extra helping of mashed potatoes.

For the alcoholic, no matter how much he loves his friends, he can begin to attend meetings of Alcoholics Anonymous. There, he will meet like-minded people who understand him, and who are fully supportive of his decision.

For the determined dieter, there are groups like Weight-Watchers to lend support.

But, for the person who has decided to learn to use the Law of Attraction to change their life, what is there?

Well, for one thing, you can try to enlist the support of at least one person who is interested in the same thing. In fact, I know of several people who have formed groups that meet regularly to share what they have learned, what their understanding of the Law of Attraction is, and most importantly, their goals.

Make it a point to meet regularly. Do not do this lightly, as something you can easily cancel, because a good part of this change is for you to see that it is important to you...it is something you are doing for yourself. At the same time, you are helping to support someone else's dreams and challenges, and it is important that you respect this fact. You are each supporting each other, and you therefore depend upon each other's encouragement and the sharing of each of your ideas. You need their support, and they depend upon yours.
