Mind relaxation refers to the process of stress reduction with the sole aim of eliminating tension and enable you to achieve a calm and peaceful state of mind. Stress and tension are a result of the reactions to the events which threaten us. An accident, financial trouble and problems on the job or with family can lead to stress. The manner in which we deal with the social, family, economical and work related pressures has a lot to do with our mental health.

Mental stress has emerged as the most disturbing factor among people from all walks of life. The mental stress can lead to high level of irritability, lack of objective approach to handling of issues, development of distorted perceptions, prejudice and impatience.

Mind relaxation techniquesreduces the incidence and severity of stress-related ailments and disorders. Luckily, there are several mind relaxation techniques which not only keep your mind calm but also the body. Try all the techniques or take the help of some expert and stick to the one that works the best for your mind and body.

Mind relaxation techniques are as follows:

1. Progressive relaxation

Progressive relaxation commonly refers to the process of first tensing, and then relaxing, the muscles of the body. Simply lie down on the floor or sit comfortably and start the exercise. Repeat the process with different muscles groups of your body. There are several websites and experts who can guide you on which muscles to flex and relax, and provide other cues regarding how to observe the difference between the tense and relaxed state.

2.Deep breathing exercises

People under mental stress sometimes experience fast and shallow breathing. To overcome the ailment you need to perform breathing exercises. Lie down on the floor and bend your knees. Place one hand on the chest and the other one on the abdomen to supervise the breathing technique. Just start taking long deep breath and raise your abdomen instead of the chest. Continue the process for nearly 20 minutes to relieve tension.

  1. Guided imagery

To perform this process you need to completely relax yourself through breathing and muscle relaxation techniques. Once you are completely relaxed you need to create pleasant and relaxing images in your mind which will allow your mind to escape somewhere calm and quite in an imaginary world. Simply imagine a situation and its ideal outcome. It will greatly lessen your anxiety about an incident which will probably happen in the future, for instance childbirth, surgery, competition or an interview.

  1. Quiet ears relaxation technique

To perform this technique simply lie down and allow your body to relax. When you are done with this just close your eyes and place your hands behind your head and close the ear canal with your thumb.

  1. White noise relaxation technique

White noise is referred as the random signal with a flat power spectral density or the frequency between two radio stations. White noise will provide you a sensational effect exactly like the soothing sound of the rain or the wind beneath the trees in a forest.

Try these mind relaxation techniques now whenever you experience tension or stress taking a toll on you. The guidance and advice of an expert will also help you to relieve stress.
