Although living in a small home has many benefits when taking a look at it on home organization's perspective, there are naturally some downsides to it also. In this article I describe three different problems that you may encounter from home organizations perspective when living in a small home. Then I offer some solutions to these common problems.

No extra storage available

Clearly one of the biggest problems is lack of storage space. Sometimes you might run into a situation where you desperately need a way to store something essential, but you just don't have enough space to do that. Also, the more people live in your household, the trickier the situation gets, since there is more stuff to be stored. In order to maximize the storage space on your home, you need to find unexpected places to store your goods. Taking advantage of vertical and horizontal spaces is definitely something you have to consider. Also, furniture that has storage space in them is also another place to store some of the items which are otherwise left visible for example on your coffee table.

You have to be creative on your organization solutions

Small home forces you to be creative when it comes to storage solutions. This may not be easy and sometimes you might find a solution to your storage issues by accident. This in turn takes time. Also some planning has to be done as well on how to store the items in the first place. Like mentioned, horizontal or vertical space can be utilized more. Also, finding a literature and web sites related to storage solutions is something that may help you. You can also try to hire professional help if you are completely running out of ideas.

More clutter visible

Less storage space means the more you have to keep you things visible. No matter if you wanted to keep your things out of sight, this may not be always possible if you are running out of storage space. You can try to at least minimize the amount of items visible. Some of the items may be something that you have decided to throw away anyway. Also, try to prevent the amount of clutter in your household in the first place by making decisions in advance. For example, whenever I buy new clothes, I always try to find something that I'm getting rid of first in my closet.
