I’m sure you have heard of the many ways to overcome panic attacks such as through medications, therapies, herbs and other ways.  But did you know that certain relaxation techniques and controlled breathing techniques can play a big part in overcoming these attacks?

Lets start with what these attacks are.  To put it simply, they are genuine and natural physical reactions that your body provides to what it feels is severe stress.  But the problem is, in reality there usually isn’t any actual severe stress present for you to be suffering from.

What happens is that your nervous system becomes overworked and sends the wrong signals to your brain.  The resulting changes create a feeling of extreme panic.

So, what you can try to do is defuse those feelings of panic and stress.  There are many ways to do this, but we’ll touch on a few here.

First of all, relaxation techniques such as meditation and yoga can help you strengthen, balance and connect with your nervous system.

And guess what?  Meditation and yoga also include breathing techniques.  So, you can learn how to relax and breath correctly at the same time.

Another helpful breathing technique is The Relaxation Response which was developed by Dr. Herbert Benson over 25 years ago.  It is a specialized breathing technique that doesn’t require meditation or yoga.

And think of this – just as our emotions can change our breathing, our breathing can also change our emotions.  And, if you can control your breathing, you can have more control over your attacks.

So, for natural options for overcoming panic attacks, you may want to look into relaxation and breathing techniques.  Many people also find that these techniques work wonders in addition to their medications.
