Jealousy is one of the main reasons for a relationship breakdown, and the quickest way to undermine the foundations that a relationship is built on. Lets look at some techniques for overcoming relationship jealousy, and hopefully help you save your relationship.

The best way to beat relationship jealousy is to understand what triggers the emotion and why you feel it. More often than not there are events from your past that are behind the way you feel, leading to insecurity, which in turn will lead to jealousy. Most people have a set of subconscious rules that they apply to their relationship with another person, and if their partner over steps the mark, the bond of trust is broken, causing feelings of insecurity. The two most common reasons for the break in trust are infidelity and lying, with both of these issues often going hand in hand.

The first thing you must address is the roots of the jealousy you feel. Many people make the mistake of keeping the way they feel to themselves, bottling your feelings up will only make matters worse. It will be a difficult thing to do, but approaching your partner and letting them know how you feel is always a good policy. When you do talk to your partner it is important to remember that it is the emotion that you are tackling, not the incidents that cause it.

Addressing the root of the problem is the long term solution to overcoming relationship jealousy, but in the short term there is a way of keeping feelings of jealousy under control. When you start to feel jealousy taking hold, recognise the feeling and ask yourself why you feel it. Ask yourself if there really is a reason to be jealous and what caused you to feel the way you do. Once you examine the situation the feeling will subside, and you will see the emotion for what it really is; an often unfounded cause of relationship breakdown.
