Necrophobia, a recurring and obsessive fear of death, is one of the most common of all fears or phobias. Living with this type of phobia can cripple relationships, destroy careers, and turn every moment of living into nothing short of torture. Fortunately, there are a number of ways to deal with the obsessive fear of death, including the use of hypnosis under the care of a properly trained hypnotherapist.

Hypnosis is used to minimize the terror associated with many different types of fears and phobias. One of the general techniques involve guiding the patient into a state of hypnosis where it is possible to visualize situations that tend to set off the almost unbearable fear and bringing up the emotions surrounding that fear. With the help of the hypnotherapist, the client can begin the process of defusing the emotions of that fear, effectively taking away the power of the situation to create such exaggerated states of distress. While it is not unusual for the fear to gradually dissipate over the course of several sessions, many people report that they are able to face similar situations in real life instances, and experience no discomfort at all.

During this process of visualization and defusing, the hypnotherapist serves as the voice of calm and reason. Slowly, the patient is led through the traumatic event, much as if walking through a fog on a stretch of road. By walking through the fog and arriving at the other side, the patient is able to face the fear, discover it is not as powerful as it seemed, and realize it can be subdued and eventually eliminated altogether.

By placing the patient into a state of hypnosis, the hypnotherapist is able to work with the subconscious mind and initiate a new thought process.  NLP, or, Neuro-Linguistic Programming can be used to eliminate fears and phobias.  The hypnotherapist can work with the sub-conscious to recognize the warning signs that the phobia is about to kick in, and move to effectively quell the fear before it has a chance to cause distress to the conscious mind. This means that the patient does not feel the sudden urge to flee known as the fight or flight syndrome, or feel that death is imminent and there is nothing that can be done.

As with any fear or phobia treatments, some people will respond to hypnosis faster than others. Most hypnotherapists feel that more than one session is necessary to remove a deeply rooted fear. However, most people notice a significant difference in the anxiety and fear that is triggered by the phobia within one session. With additional sessions, especially when accompanied with NLP or EFT, hypnosis can be used to free the individual from fears such as the fear of death and make it possible to begin enjoying life to the fullest once again.
