PETA need not worry; this is not a post about any diabolical experiments performed on chickens. It is a post on something much more humane and fun.
Hens, in my post, refer to bachelorettes, those women who are as yet unmarried. That is the traditional definition of a bachelorette though, and is one which has led to the origin of the bachelorette or hen party.
Hen parties, today, are quite a fixture among modern wedding celebrations with brides-to-be conducting them to mark their passage from a bachelorette to a married woman. Grooms-to-be have their own stag parties which are held on similar lines.
Coming back to women, the events that are included in a hen party may be anything from trip with all the girl friends to a famous nightspot in a foreign land or in the bride’s own hometown. While risqué happenings are not uncommon, there are quite a few new brides known to prefer pampering their lady friends with more sedate activities like luxury spa treatments and deluxe makeovers.
