A movemanSKG Prestige platform lift provides an access route for less able students at the newly built primary school in Ballyfin, a small village in the beautiful Slieve Bloom Mountains of Ireland. The building is on a slope, and the three-stop lift allows wheelchair users to move between entrance level, the lower floor playground and cloakrooms, and upper floor classrooms. Funded by the Department of Education and the local Parish, Ballyfin’s new school cost over £3m to build, and replaces an older one that first opened its doors in 1902. It is a modern, handsome building, and nearly 200 children from the village and surrounding area currently attend. The school features eight new classrooms, a library, dedicated teaching staff, and three special needs assistants. The Prestige at Ballyfin Primary school travels approximately nine metres between levels and carries loads of 400kg – powerful enough to lift a wheelchair user plus an attendant. Key operation prevents misuse, and powered doors allow quick, easy access. Glazing in three sides of the shaft adds to the lift’s aesthetic appearance and means it blends seamlessly with the new building. Michael Moloney, Principal at Ballyfin Primary School, is very pleased; “Thanks to movemanSKG, our new school is accessible to all. We have responsibilities under the DDA (Disability Discrimination Act) but more importantly, we are committed to equal opportunities - the lift makes our facilities available to less able students. It gets daily use and performs reliably.” movemanSKG’s Prestige is extremely popular and available in a variety of colours and finishes, making it customisable to suit any environment. It incorporates all electrical equipment and lifting gear, eliminating the need for a separate machine room or ugly cabinet. Prestige also has numerous safety features, including interlocking doors that prevent anyone entering the lift while it is in motion.
