"I will bless the Lord at all times: His praise shall continually be in my mouth. My soul shall make her boast in the LORD: the humble shall hear thereof, and be glad. O magnify the LORD with me, and let us exalt his name together" (Psalm 34:1-3)

The "I will" at the beginning of this passage suggests that praise does not always come naturally. It's a decision. It has very little or nothing to do with your mood or how you feel. Many times the mood or feeling will simply not be there. But you do it anyway, regardless, and in spite of. Praise flowstothe emotions, notfromemotion. Don't wait for mood or music before you begin to bless the Lord. Go ahead and take a praise break. How 'bout right now?

If Paul and Silas had waited for mood or music before they could bless the Lord, they would never have gotten out of jail. No, they didnt wait for goosebumps. Instead we are told:

"And at midnight Paul and Silas prayed, and sang praises unto God: and the prisoners heard them. "And suddenly there was a great earthquake, so that the foundations of the prison were shaken: and immediately all the doors were opened, and every one's bands were loosed. (Acts 16:25).

Wanna shake up some things in your life? Open some closed doors? Loose some chains? Then get your praise on!

There is no such thing as silent praise. There is silent prayer. But no silent praise. David said:"His praise shall continually be in my mouth."Not in my heart. Yes, the heart is where true praise begins. But it doesnt end there. What's in the heart will migrate to your mouth. What's in the heart should cause the lips and hands to do something.

Notice the wordsat all timesandcontinually? This is when praise has become a habit. The rule is this: 'if you dont have the habit of praise, you have a bad habit.' You likely grumble, gripe, grudge, grouch, growl and groan habitually. You whine, complain, belly-ache, criticise and judge - a lot! To get into the habit of something, you have to do it continually. Psychologists say repeatedly for 21 days . . .  And so for the true child of God, praise is instinctive, intensive and addictive. You are addicted to praise and refuse to take a cure!

Child of God, does this note find you in the pit of a pity party? Are you wondering how you can move from pain to power? From sighing to singing? From worrying to worshipping? From the pit to the palace? Praise is the answer! Yes, praise is what you do when you dont know what to do! No matter how bad your stuff looks, you find a way to somehow reach way down your soul and pull out a "Glory, hallelujah!"

Hallelujah - what a word! From "hallal", the common word for "praise." Hallal means to be extremely excited about, to rave about, to celebrate, to boast about. Boast? Yes. Child of God you have some bragging rights! We not talking about carnal, fleshly, human boasting here. That is nothing but a bag of wind! Like pumping up a bicycle tube on its own. It will soon blow up! But put the tube in its proper place, within the confines of the tyre, then we are in business.

We dont just boast or brag. We boast in the Lord. Our bragging rights are not personal. We dont brag on ourselves. We brag on the Lord."My soul shall make her boast in the Lord"is how david put it. This is the stuff of praise - telling demons and devils, angels and the hosts of heaven, how big, how awesome, how terrible, how ginormous, our God is."O magnify the LORD with me, and let us exalt his name together."
