Pregnancy - it's an amazing experience that only us girls get toreallyexperience. (The guys think they do – but they don't!). That feeling of a new life growing inside your belly, knowing that there's a little person in there, is something that's hard to put into words and then the physical sensations of that little baby moving and kicking are just incredible.

At the end of nine months there is a little bundle of joy that will grow and create emotions within you for the rest of your life that you would never have expected to be feel – from both ends of the emotional spectrum - but mostly the good end (hopefully!).

So pregnancy is overall awonderful experiencewith incredible gifts as an end result – except for the weight gain and thepregnancy stretch marks.

Now the weight can be lost with a bit of hard work and good diet after the birth of your baby and if you are sensible you can minimise the weight gain during pregnancy to make it easier post pregnancy.

But what about the stretch marks?

Although there is no definite ‘cure' or ‘prevention' for stretch marks, therearethings that you can do to minimise your risk for getting them and to reduce the appearance of existing stretch marks.

First – take care of your skin from the inside:

  • Keep your body hydrated. Drink plenty of water.
  • Eat plenty of fruits and vegetables.
  • Do your best to ensure that you are getting sufficient amounts of vitamins, minerals, essential fatty acids and antioxidants.
  • Limit processed foods, sugar and artificial additives.

If you keep yourself as healthy as you can, then that will help to ensure that your skin is healthy. Healthy skin is more likely to bestretchy and elasticenough to not be damaged by a rapidly growing you!

Second – take care of your skin from the outside:

  • Use creams or lotions that will help to keep your skin soft and supple and more elastic.

There are many stretch mark creams available , and many are big on promises but limited on results.

Those big purple, ugly stretch marks are caused by damage to the skin when it can't stretch quickly enough to accommodate the change in size of the body part in question and in pregnancy that means the belly, hips, thighs and breasts.

So, the good news is that itispossible to reduce your chances of getting stretch marks or to reduce the appearance of existing stretch marks and why not do what you can to either prevent or to limit them?
