There is no need to be brow-beaten if you follow this simple advice.

Have you ever wished you could have eyebrows like Jennifer Lopez but in this current climate do not feel you can stretch to employing two eyebrow make-up artists, an eyebrow specialist and an eyebrow assistant?  Well, here are a few tips to keep you going until then.

It is well known that eyebrows not only frame the face but give it real definition and balance.  Brows therefore need to be in tip-top shape and condition at all times.  If the idea of eyebrow threading doesn't appeal either from a cost or pain point of view, then there are other ways to enhance these very important features.

Women with naturally beautiful brows are very lucky and, apart from tweezing out the odd stray hair, need only give them a quick upwards brush at the end of putting on their make-up.  Particular care should be taken when dressing in case by pulling a jumper over your head it brushes your lashes downwards leaving an unkempt look.

Regardless of the current fashion trends for eyebrows, ie. whether they should be thick and bushy or virtually non-existent and created totally by pencil, the natural shape of your brow is probably the right shape for your face.  To find this, lay a pencil on your face on a line from the corner of your mouth to the corner of your outer eye.  The pencil should extend to the end points for your brows.   Alternatively, an appointment with a make-up consultant or beautician could be useful in initially defining this shape.

Next, brush eyebrows upwards and outwards to lift the eye and then fill in any with a sharpened pencil in a colour that is slightly softer than your natural eyebrow.  Remember, brow colour should never be darker than your hair colour or they will dominate your face and you could end up looking like Alistair Darling.  In filling in any gaps, use small and soft feathery strokes.  Be careful using kohl eyeliners since these are soft and can smudge.

Depending on your face shape, brows can be ‘tweaked' a little for maximum impact. For example, an oval face benefits from brows that slant slightly upwards at the end whereas the optimum shape for a square face would be a gentle arch just above the centre of each eye, directly over the pupil.  For those with rounder faces, brows that are as straight as possible with no outer edge droop are the most flattering.

A professional image consultant would be able to further advice on the best shape of eyebrow for your face and how to maintain this.
