A receding hairline or thinning hair in a patch over the back of the head has shown to cause more anxiety, lack of confidence and effect a man's self-image more than anything else in a man's life. Why does it happen? Genetics can play a role in why, through a hormone. Other causes of baldness can include a deficiency in iron (anaemia), an under active thyroid, some prescribed medicines, a fungal scalp infection or even stress. The main cause for hair loss however is the DHT hormone.

Dihydrotestosterone, or DHT, is an androgenic hormone and the increase of this hormone in a man's body will leads to hair loss. This hormone occurs in the male body for normal male developing before birth and during puberty, regulation of hair growth and for the sex drive. In regards to hair loss, if there is an over-abundance of DHT in the scalp, it will collect on the hair follicles and block the transmission of blood to the follicle. The follicles receive the nutrients it needs to grow and be healthy from this blood supply. So if the blood supply is cut off to the hair follicle, the hair follicle will die from mal-nutrition and shrink. As this occurs more and more over the head, the hair thins out and then over time completely disappears.

To solve this situation a decrease in the DHT hormone must be accomplished. There are synthetic drugs available through prescription to decrease the DHT, but they can cause various nasty side effects and the use of these drugs are not suggested. So is there anything else to use?

Yes. There are natural solutions to this situation. They naturally reduce the level of DHT in the body and at the same time do not produce side effects since they are natural products. Here are three of the most effective natural hair loss treatments to choose from.

Saw Palmetto is an herbal treatment to prevent the DHT. Saw Palmetto blocks the conversion of testosterone from forming into DHT naturally. Pumpkin seeds are another supplement that will help the liver to break the DHT down so it can't be used in the body. Lastly, zinc also prevents the testosterone process of turning into DHT.

Search health food stores, herbal stores or online for mixtures combined with these supplements to optimize the reversal of male-patterned baldness.

If the baldness is caused by one of the other factors, try correcting the health condition to bring back the hair. With iron deficiency, simple find a good quality iron supplement. An under active thyroid should be seen and cared for under the direction of a physician and then the problem should be resolved. If a side effect of a medicine that is currently being taken, talk with the doctor about switching medicines. A fungal scalp infection may leave permanent damage, but consulting with a skin specialist may reveal treatment options. Stress is a harder problem to take care of. Sitting down and working out a plan of action to best reduce the stress in life is an option. Losing hair to stress may be a sign that it is taking a toll on the entire body not just the hair and reevaluating daily life and/or work may be in order before something more serious happens.
