Preventingprematurehairlossis a top priority for most people because premature hair loss can have serious psychological effects on a person. Some psychologists have likened adapting to one's balding situation equal to adapting to a terminal disease. Now, you don't have to lose your hair before you start looking for remedies as there are some tried and tested methods that can help you prevent a premature loss of hair. One of the major things to avoid if you want to have a lot of hair is stress. Relieving stress is something that we may not achieve entirely given that many of us already work in environments that are plagued by stress. What with all the deadlines to meet and the bills to paid, the situation doesn't look good at all.

Actually, stress is a major cause of hair loss than many people would want to believe. Stress constricts the blood vessels that flow to the hair follicles and therefore make the hair follicles receive less blood. From your biology lessons, you might remember that blood carries nutrients with it to the body cells. Now since the hair follicles receive less blood, this actually means that they also receive fewer nutrients. With fewer nutrients, the growth of new hairs is hampered. A normal person loses an average of 100 hairs daily but the loss isn't noticeable because the hair cells are quickly replenished. However, if the hair follicles slow down the growth of new hairs, the amount of hair lost starts becoming more than new hairs produced and in no time the person will become first partially bald and then bald completely. As a remedy, you should exercise regularly and avoid putting yourself in many stressful situations. Sleep can also be a major stress healer and helps clear the mind and makes it adaptable to any kind of situation.

You should also increase your uptake of important hair growth nutrients. It is amazing how many people deny their hair the nourishment it needs. Some people who actually diet for long periods of time do not realize this. Nutrients that are important for hair growth include proteins that are needed for the building of new cells. Other important nutrients include vitamin B6, vitamin A, zinc, copper, iron, etc. Foods that are rich in these nutrients include whole grains, liver, green and yellow fruits, dark green vegetables, etc.

You should also pay particular attention to the hairstyle that you use as some hair styles are bound to cause hair loss. For example, the use of certain chemicals on the hair is bound to increase the level of burns on the scalp and thereby lead to temporary or permanent hair loss. Tight braiding such as the use of cornrows is also bound to cause some loss of hair. Ponytails that are too heavy have also been known to cause hair loss as they exert too much pressure on the scalp. Some drugs also cause hair loss as a side effect and it is important to discuss with your doctor the appropriate drug to use so as to remedy this situation.
