In the early 1980's, American's who suffered from limited mobility saw relief in the form of power lift chairs. The earliest of models were nothing more than everyday recliners with lift mechanisms. Imagine a Lay-Z-Boy with a spring lift attached to a button - while not quite as primitive, you get the idea.
