Productivity is not all about increasing the output of your business or production process, even though this definition could be indirectly applicable to the context of this article. As a young person who wants to be very successful in Life, you just have to be productive. Now, the question is, how can you be productive? As the Advanced Oxford Dictionary or even Wikipedia would define production as a process of using different raw materials and plans or know how (inputs) to bring out an output for consumption. So therefore, productivity is a self improving process of identifying and development of various skills or talents you have, to improve your output on what you can offer to the society, any company or organization (consumption). If this is making sense, we can then proceed. How can you make yourself productive?• Try to figure out the area or aspect of Life you are so much interested in, regardless of the profession you are pursuing or you want to pursue. It is possible for you to like two or more aspect of Life. It doesn't mean you do not like your profession but figure out another aspect you can derive pleasure from, if you try.• Do some research on it and if possible, test it to see if you love it.• Try to develop that skill or interest more practically and with time you can take a step to start showing or exhibiting it. If professional groups or events related to that skill exist, join or attend. Don't just stop there; learn two or three more other skills you can. Remember, the definition clearly emphasizes on the collection of various skills. If you do know one, you can add one or two more, but please! Do not try to be a 'jack of all trade' (two or three more skills are enough). For instance, you are studying Engineering and you also have the passion for photography and wild-life. You can learn about photography, try to know it and be skillful in it. During your holidays, you can travel to take some very nice and professional photos, register into sites like blogspot or/and hubpages where you can post clear pictures there. Write some little notes to make them very welcoming and admirable. As you do this, try to learn something else, maybe swimming and maybe one or two foreign languages (French and/or Spanish). God! Is this possible? Yes it is. Just apportion your time during your study periods, and you will definitely achieve it. Medical students do achieve this, so it would not be difficult to achieve, if determined. If for instance you started this in your first year, before your third year, you should have attracted a lot of viewers which may also include professional groups and companies wanting to know more about you. Very good and attractive skills which are not business or profit targeted easily attract deals from professional groups or companies than the skills targeted to make money. This is because you are not into it professionally and hence the company would want to exploit your skills in a cheaper rate (after all, you are doing this for fun). If interested, take it and start getting business deals and 'added experiences'. This is also applicable to other instances. What if you are not fortunate to attract any of these professional groups even though you are good? Though if you are good and constantly exhibiting and showing what you've got as well as improving on your skills, you have an 83.3% chance to be spotted. But just in case it did not happen that way, continue to do 'your thing'. After all, you do not have any profit-making plan in mind. You are doing it for fun, but get this insight. After graduation, garnish your resume or curriculum vitae. Consider these three samples: 1. The applicant is a first class Engineering graduate and one year experience in BCI Engineers and scientists summer exhibitions and training. Plays Basketball, 6 months certificate course in practical engineering and applications of computer informatics, has a good knowledge of computer applications, and one year program on metal technology.2. A second class upper Engineering graduate, a writer with 3 years of experience in a world class article site, having 2,000 articles to his credit with 14,800 viewers and 5,000 comments. An affiliate promoter, promoting products through writing (lists some of the products, especially the ones he has been successful with). Plays football, Basketball, swims and can speak English and French fluently and also Spanish in a conversational level. Has a good knowledge of computer science and applications.3. Applicant has Masters in Engineering with a first class in his first Degree. Has traveled to 18 different countries and engages in Long distance race as his area of interest. He has three diploma certificates and good in computer applications. If you were the screening officer and you are to use these resumes as the factor of choice, who would you choose? If you do not know this secret, then know it now that most companies are attracted to a resume spiced up with more of skills and less of diplomas you acquire (though of course, there should be some level of your professional know how with one or two certificates). You know why? If you are very good as you work, they can send you out on courses on several occasions to boost your skills and knowledge or even allow you to take part-time classes as you further in your studies. But skills is a self-improving process which cannot be aided by them (your employers) to help you acquire, and if you cannot or do not acquire any skill, the company is sure not to get any added advantage from you if need be. It is never to late, think of a skill you can learn and still cope with your normal activities and start immediately. No one will do this for you, be productive and be a 'hot cake' in your environment.
