If you've decided that the time is here or near to quit smoking, I will commend you, and if you are reading this, then you must be curious as to what to expect in the coming days and weeks. Quit smoking withdrawal symptoms have some common traits with having a cold.

Quitters flu is the common name used to describe the symptoms of nicotine withdrawal. Understanding what you are going to be experiencing may help you better prepare yourself to move through this stage easier.

The following is a list of common of quit smoking withdrawal symptoms:

  • cravings to smoke (understandable)
  • irritable and cranky (no surprise here)
  • insomnia
  • fatigue
  • headache
  • cough and sore throat
  • dry mouth
  • tightness in your chest
  • concentration issues

Knowing the five common coping skills for nicotine withdrawal also help to conquering this addiction

  • Delay- urges normally pass within 3-5 minutes
  • Distract- try to do something to take your mind off things
  • Drink- don't substitute one addiction for another, but drink water to keep your body hydrated to fight off cravings
  • Deep Breathing- This will help you to relax your mind and heart
  • Discuss- talk about how you are feeling with someone close or join a support forum to help with coping with quitting smoking

There are other things you can do to help you with quitting smoking and overcoming your quit smoking withdrawal symptoms, but the above are your most common. Remember to get lots of rest and the biggest piece of advice is to do things to keep your mind occupied on something else, such as exercise and learning some good relaxation techniques.

We are able to in this day and age to arm ourselves with so much knowledge of overcoming this addiction, that it is hard not to succeed, but with any addiction, overcoming your withdrawal symptoms will be difficult.

So once again I will sincerely congratulate you for your decision to kick this habit in thebuttonce and for all.
