The human hair grows in a cycle known as the hair cycle. Each hair in the scalp is in one of the three phases of this cycle. When hair falls out, it is replaced by a new one. It is considered normal to shed up to 100 hairs per day; this a part of the cycle. When the hair cycle changes and slows for whatever reason, the hairs will fall out but it will take much more time to replace it. One of the most commonreasons for baldnessis Androgenic Alopecia (AA).This is genetical and if one of your parents is bald, then you are bound to be bald as well. By the age of 25, some men begin experiencing this condition. Most scientists attribute this condition to the production of the DHT hormone. DHT prevents the hair follicles from growing hence causing male pattern baldness. Female pattern baldness is also called Androgenic Alopecia for women. This is the most common cause of hair loss in women. The pattern baldness in both men and women essentially means that hair falls out and is replaced by a very thin one and until the whole cycle stops, the hair is not replaced by new hair at all. Other reasons for baldness include: - Chemical damage: The use of chemicals in hair styling can change the shape and color of the hair. Chemicals are being used for these hair styles can damage the hair follicles. This damage can be permanent and cause the loss of hair for women as well as men.
- Stress: Stress is one of the major reasons for temporary hair loss.
- Smoking: Cigarettes increase the aging process of the smoker's body. Aging accelerates the hair loss from the scalp. A smoker experiences hair loss at a much younger age than a non-smoker does.
- Bad diet: Eating unhealthy foods can damage the skin and hair after some time. When we are on diets that do not contain the appropriate minerals and nutrients, then hair loss is bound to be accelerated. Important nutrients that should always be included in the diet include proteins, copper, zinc, vitamin B6, folic acid, vitamin A, and iron. Foods that should always be eaten include whole grains, dark green vegetables, green and yellow fruits, liver, and foods that have been fortified with vitamin A and vitamin B6.
- Bad treatment: You should always take care of your hair well. Certain hairstyles such as tight braiding should be avoided as they cause hair loss. You should always contact your hair stylist for the best treatment solution of your hair.
- Cancer chemotherapy treatment: The chemotherapy treatment which cancer patients receive has a substantial effect on the health and hair of a person. Patients who recover from the disease usually regrow their hair however.
- Other drugs and medicines: Some drugs and medicines affect the body in different ways. People who use strong drugs for long periods of time can experience considerable hair loss and damage.
- Long exposure to the sun.
One needs to regularly follow the doctors, dieticians, and hair stylists advice to be able to take care of your hair properly.
