There are manyreasons for thinning hairand before you start looking for a solution for your thinning hair it is important that you know the cause first. Some of the causes are hereditary while some of the causes are induced.

In males, one of the major causes of thinning hair may be hereditary. A large percentage of thinning hair in men is associated with the production of a substance known as DHT, which affects the hair follicles and causes it not to produce new hair. On a normal day, the average person loses about 100 hairs but since new hair is being constantly produced by the hair follicle, this loss isn't noticeable. Since DHT inhibits the production of new hair by the hair follicles, the amount of hair lost starts becoming more than the hair produced. At first soft thin hairs are produced but with time the whole production stops and the person is said be balding. The is the base which prescription drugs use. Simply, they inhibit the production of DHT hormone by blocking the conversion of testosterone to DHT. Hence they help cure baldness in men. However, these prescription drugs come with many side effects and it is important to consult with your doctor in order to know the right drug for you. Such prescription drugs include Procerin, Provillus, Corvinex, etc. However these drugs only treat male pattern baldness. Female pattern baldness is thought to be caused by hormonal imbalances and these drugs may not work for women. There are however other drugs that can be used instead such as Sephren.

The other major reason for thinning hair is stress. Put simply, stress constricts blood vessels and therefore and as you might be aware blood helps carry nutrients to the body cells. Because the vessels are constricted, less blood is available to the hair follicles and therefore less nutrients are available. The ability of the hair follicle to produce new hair is therefore hampered and as such balding starts to occur. One should therefore avoid stressful situations or seek ways to alleviate the amount of stress that they might be experiencing. You should exercise regularly; exercises that you can perform include yoga and weighlifting. You should also get appropriate amounts of sleep as sleep helps to clear the mind and relax the body hence aiding the production of new hormones.

The other cause of thinning hair is taking inadequate or the wrong nutrients. Just like any cell, the hair cell needs nutrients in order to grow. Such nutrients may include proteins that are needed for the building of new cells, iron that is needed for hemoglobin formation, etc. Other important nutrients include vitamin B6, vitamin a, folic acid, copper, zinc, etc.

As a precaution, your hair style may also be a major cause of thinning hair. Certain hair styles such as tight braids, cornrows, and ponytails exert undue pressure on the scalp hence leading to the loss of some hairs. As such you should always discuss with your hair stylist the appropriate styles to use and the treatment for each style. This will go a long way in reversing the thinning process of your hair.
