Canker sores are one of the most common oral diseases you can ever have.  It is characterized by a small lesion usually located on the lips.  It causes a stinging pain for the person who is afflicted.  Knowing this, you are bound to ask what causes canker sores?  How can we prevent it?  This article will try and answer all your questions.

Major Causes of Canker Sores

  • As of the moment, there is no known specific cause for canker sores.  Some doctors say that it may be stress related.  Others say that it has something to do with not brushing your teeth regularly.  Research shows that what you eat may have something to do with the development of the mouth sores.
  • In addition, systematic conditions in the endocrine as well as swollen lymph nodes is said to also contribute to having canker sores.
  • Nevertheless, this condition is really painful not only for the patient but for the people around him as well.  This is because if the canker sores get worse, the pain from the wounds may not allow you to eat.  This is why you have to do everything that you can avoid having canker sore.

Treatment

  • Most dentists would recommend that you just leave it alone.  Canker sores would disappear after 10 to 14 days.  However, if it does not the medical professionals recommend that you use tetracycline mouthwash.  This solution helps get rid of the bacteria that may aggravate the mouth sores even further.
  • In addition to this, maintaining your oral hygiene is really important.  You have to brush and floss your teeth every day before and after meals so that you can keep out all the unwanted bacteria that may cause the canker sores to come back.

Recurrence

  • Usually, the advanced form of canker sores comes back after 2 to 3 months of healing.  In order to prevent this, you must follow the necessary treatment methods that your dentist will recommend.

Additional Points

  • Another way for you to avoid canker sores as recommended by the dentists is to take a lot of vitamins and supplements that can increase your immune system.  Having your dentist regularly clean your teeth can also reduce the risk of developing canker sores.
  • Paying regular visits to the dentist can also help him or her know if you have the herpes simplex virus infection or a simple mouth soar.  This way the dentist can help you treat the monster more effectively.

Conclusion

If you really want to cure your canker sores, you must try to avoid all the possible causes of the disease.  Since there is no direct cause bad we know of right now, you have to make sure that you maintain perfect oral hygiene.  As stated earlier, brushing your teeth will be the most effective weapon you can have against all infections and beaching that may affect your mouth in the near future.  Paying regular visits to the dentist will also help in avoiding canker sores.
