Some common myths have arisen concerning hair loss. Because of medical advancements many of these myths are being corrected. For starters, although androgenetic alopecia, pattern baldness, is genetic and can be hereditary, it is not passed down through only your mother’s side of the family. Either side of the family can pass down the genetic disposition toward baldness. Also, contrary to old family tales, wearing hats does not cause baldness either.

What exactly can you do to help reduce your hair loss? This is an excellent question and let me first explain a little about what causes hair loss in the first place. Hair loss can be caused by anything ranging from age, heredity, stress, hormones, and diet can even play a crucial part. The two primary causes of hair loss would have to be a buildup of DHT in the body and an insufficient diet. With this being said there are a few things that you can do in order to reduce the loss of hair.

Everyday spend about 5-10 minutes massaging your hair with your fingers. Move your fingers circularly all over the head starting from the temporal parts to the occipital area. Apply the necessary pressure to the areas. Even Yoga exercises such as the headstand are recommended for proper circulation to all the parts, especially the hair follicles to stimulate growth.

Another effective treatment contains the herbal ingredient called Saw Palmetto. Studies show that losing one’s hair is the results of the high amount of DHT (Dihydrotestosterone) in the scalp. DHT is the natural metabolite of the human body that induces baldness in both men and women due to hormonal changes in the body. The DHT adheres to the hair follicles and slowly make them get smaller - causing it to get thinner over time. Saw Palmetto prevents DHT from forming around the follicles by reducing the amount of DHT, and allows re-growth. A shampoo with this natural herb is certainly worth a try

Your hair cleansing routine largely depends on your hair-type. People having oily hair may need to wash their hair regularly, while people having dry hair can wash it twice a week. Never use too hot or too cold water to wash your hair. While cleaning or massaging your hair, you should always use your fingertips and not your nails to gently clean your scalp.

The catechins help inhibit 5-alpha-reductase, which contributes to baldness. If you like technical jargon, here’s what Dr. Marty Sawaya says about the the benefits, “Using green tea to grow hair probably relates to the evidence for influencing circulating hormones in the body. A high intake of green tea correlates to higher levels of sex hormone-binding protein - or globulin, which carries hormones like testosterone around the body in a bound, unusable form so that tissues cannot use it directly.
