Generally people affected by tinnitus, either mild or chronic, tend to have low attention and memory. Tinnitus is a syndrome featured by ringing or buzzing sound heard in ear, either temporarily, or intermittent or permanent. The exact cause of tinnitus is not yet found. It may be due to allergies, hearing loss, or some medications or loud noise. Tinnitus is very much stressful and distracting.

A study was conducted by the researchers of the Western Sydney University in Australia, in the year of 2006, with 2 groups of people; 19 of them with mild and chronic tinnitus and another 19 of them without tinnitus. The sect with the tinnitus disorder showed the result of low attention and memory. Yet, there was no difference in the less complex checks. The study emphasis that the tinnitus does not imprints its influence on the involuntary and automatic responses of a person.

Again in 2007, researchers have again emphasized that cognitive behavioral therapy helps a lot in coping tinnitus. It is stated that 18% of the tinnitus patients come from the industrialized countries and majority of them do not tend to seek any method of treatment, yet deal with it. And among them 3% of them have chronic tinnitus and have some sleep disturbances, depression and anxiety.

The Cochrane Collaboration experimented with 285 patients, with 6 trials. CBT is a training to change the attitude of the patients on tinnitus. The ones who attended the workshop showed an enhanced lifestyle, although their ringing did not stop. CBT is a successful avenue to treat the depression caused by tinnitus, but if you ask whether it relieves from tinnitus, the answer is no. of course, CBT is an ideal method to have a positive approach to help tinnitus patients to handle their life easily with their existing conditions.
