Have you ever thought why some people can deal with stress, tragedy and bad times better than others - it's all to do with 'Resilience'. It is believed that 'resilince' is the key for both children and adults when times especially when dealing with depression.

What is Resilience
Resilience is the ability for people to cope with stress and when things don’t go well. Therefore when there are bad times, people who have learnt resilient skills, have an increased chance of ‘bouncing back’. This can reduce depression and other health issues.

How do I become Resilient?
In order for a person to be resilient they need to feel good about themselves. Being resilient is an ongoing process which is “ordinary, not extraordinary”. Anyone of any age can gain resilient skills. This doesn’t mean that they won’t experience hardship, stress and sadness, it just means that you can gain the skills to enhance your coping and recovery method. “It involves behaviors, thoughts, and actions that can be learned and developed in anyone “ (APA Help Centre).

Things to build your resilience
Developing skills to become more resilient is a personal individual journey. Strategies to help you become more resilient include:
-> Positive Self – Talk. This is when the voice in your head thinks good things about you.
-> Set realistic goals, taking small steps to meet those goals
-> Say positive things such as compliments.
-> Hang around positive people. Negative people can bring you down
-> Accept that no one is perfect. You make mistakes, other people make mistakes.
-> Get involved in positive things, like exercise, music and other activities
-> Take care of yourself – your health and wellbeing.

Does any of you have other strategies to coming more resilient?
