Have you ever experienced ringing ears after a concert ? That insistent, tinny noise that absolutely refuses to go away even when you shake your head like crazy? That is a medical malady known as tinnitus. Most people ignore that sound thinking that it is just related to the loud noise they got exposed to and will surely will go away in about a day or so. The shocking truth is, even if the ringing ears after a concert fades, the damage has already been done. Maybe it'll be minor damage, but it accumulates and can result in something more serious.

So why is knowing this important? Well, for one thing, knowledge is power. Knowing how to avoid ringing ears after a concert and after any other activity may save you from permanent hearing damage. Right now, that ringing in your ears after the concert may last anywhere between 2 hours and 2 days. Imagine if it becomes permanent. That ringing in the ears, especially after a concert, may well drive you into distraction! Also, other ramifications include not being able to go to future concerts or any place that produces loud noises.

What are the things you can do to avoid that bothersome ringing in your ears after a concert? The most obvious (and easiest) thing you can do is minimize the noise you listen to on a daily basis. Music doesn't have to be loud for it to be enjoyed. Turn the volume of your iPod down. Lower the volume of your TV as well. If you know you're going to places with loud music and are aware that you are susceptible to tinnitus, bring earplugs to minimize the noise level. It might be awkward, but it will save you a lot of pain in the long run. Do not go near construction sites - jackhammers make a lot of noise, same as other contraptions they use to build or tear down buildings. Gun ranges are also a big no no; you would not want to hear the pistol cracks all day long. Nightclubs are also out - these places can guarantee the same experience as ringing ears after a concert. These are just some examples of places to stay away from.

The ringing ears after a concert will eventually fade, but the damage will still be there. Make sure to avoid compounding the problem by following the tips above. After all, you will need your auditory system intact if you plan on hearing clearly for the years to come.
