It's a distraction. It's irritating. It's Tinnitus. Ringing of the ears can change your life drastically, and usually not on the good side. We know that at the moment, there is no outright cure for tinnitus. This ringing will stay and might get worse. And while our doctors and scientists work hard in finding a cure, we can, by ourselves find ways on how to handle tinnitus so it won't affect our lives.

While a cure is not available, managing ringing of the ears is feasible. The first step, when tinnitus attacks, is to determine the cause of it. Consult your doctor and undergo an audiometric test. If it's ear infection that's causing it, then have it treated accordingly, so it won't get worse. If it's due to a paraganglioma, know your best options and get the appropriate treatment. If it's a sign of hearing loss, then avoid exposure to loud noises; wear ear plugs or filters to avoid further damage. Determine the cause of ringing of the ears, understanding this will help you get a step closer into finding the right treatment.

If you have chronic tinnitus, the main point is don't panic. Ringing of the ears can be an irritating experience but don't let it control you by panic. Panic can cause other complications, distracting you and taking you away from the right thing to do, and may cause anxiety attacks. When experiencing ringing of the ears, most sufferers try holistic ways to divert attention and eventually forget the sound. Meditation can help you focus on another thing than ringing of the ears, and can help relax your mind.

Accept and understand tinnitus. Like most problems we encounter in life, accepting them allows us to understand them better and find our own ways to solve them. Understanding why there is ringing of the ears can help us focus on environmental factors like noises or emotions, which may have triggered tinnitus.

Take care of yourself. Prevention is always the best way to avoid any illness. Most cases of tinnitus sufferers were usually due to being exposed to loud noises from their environment or from their jobs. When you are working in the airlines, construction, or in factories, for example wear ear plugs to reduce the volume of the noise that can damage your ear cells. Most ringing of the ears occur right after exposure to a loud sound (ex. Concerts), and indication that the loud noise itself may have caused some damage and over-excitement of your auditory sensors.
