A weak bladder can make that longing for the open road into a longing for a potty instead.  If frequent urination and urine leakage are making you contemplate a "stay-cation" this year, here are some tips that may help to change your mind.

Plan Ahead When Packing

You'll want to have any incontinence supplies you need close by, whether you're traveling by car, train, or plane.  Pack a few plastic bags, too, so you can dispose of any used products discreetly.  A change of clothes is always a good idea.

You may want to consider a disposable portable travel toliet.  These are inexpensive and readily available online.  This little item is good insurance on a long trip where a bathroom break may be hard to come by.

Keep a spray can of odor neutralizer around to take care of any lingering smells.

Be sure to pack your supplies in your carry-on bag if you're flying.  None of these items will do you any good if they're in the baggage hold when you need them.

Watch What You Eat And Drink When You're On The Road

Most people tend to go heavy on the caffeine on a trip, especially when traveling by car.  But that extra coffee or cola, while helping to keep you awake, will quickly make a pit stop a necessity.  Cut back on anything with caffeine in it to avoid that urge to urinate too soon.

If you have any food sensitivities, a vacation is not the place to see if you still have them.  Wheat, dairy products, fried foods, spicy dishes, citrus fruits and juice, and even honey and artificial sweeteners may all irritate an overactive urinary tract.  Alcohol is also known to trigger problems, so you may want to avoid that glass of wine at dinner.

Drink enough water to stay hydrated.  This is also a good way to avoid constipation, which puts pressure on the abdominal area.

Do Your Kegel Exercises

Just because you're on vacation doesn't mean you should neglect doing these exercises.  Keeping the pelvic floor muscles toned is a natural way to control urinary problems.  If you feel a sudden need for the bathroom, doing a few Kegels can help you hold it until you can get there.

Try A Natural Remedy For Loss Of Bladder Control

Water-soluble pumpkin seed extract and soy germ extract are two very promising natural treatments for frequent urination.  You may want to start taking them a couple of months before your journey.  Many people have found that these safe and effective herbal remedies can relieve the problem, sometimes in as little time as a month.

Don't let a weak bladder make you miss out on the next road trip.  Plan ahead now, so you can enjoy a real vacation this year.
